For clinicians seeking advanced, guideline-based training, we offer in-person workshops at major (sexual medicine) meetings worldwide.
As part of the ISSM & Movember collaboration, the Advanced Skills Workshops offer clinicians the opportunity to build practical, guideline-based skills for addressing sexual health in prostate cancer care. These in-person, small-group workshops are designed for non-physician providers, oncology professionals, and other multidisciplinary healthcare workers who are directly involved in patient follow-up.
Using experiential role-play, structured feedback, and communication training based on the 5As framework, participants will strengthen their confidence and ability to integrate sexual health discussions into daily clinical practice. Each workshop is highly interactive and focused on real-world application, including attention to underserved populations and inclusive care.
Workshops will be hosted during international meetings through 2027, and post-event assessments and follow-ups will help support long-term implementation.
If you would like to suggest a relevant meeting or propose a group of participants, please contact us at movember@issm.info.
What is the 5As Communication Model?
The 5As framework (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange) is a structured, patient-centered approach that helps clinicians feel confident initiating and guiding conversations about sexual health:
- Ask – Open the conversation by inviting patients and partners to share their concerns in a safe and non-judgmental way.
- Assess – Explore individual needs, expectations, and readiness for support or treatment
- Advise – Provide clear, evidence-based information about changes in sexual function and possible interventions.
- Assist – Offer practical strategies, coping tools, and referrals to specialists when needed.
- Arrange – Ensure continuity of care by scheduling follow-ups, sharing resources, and connecting patients to peer support.
This framework will be woven throughout the workshop and practiced in role-play scenarios.
What to Expect?
- Expert-led training based on The Guidelines for Sexual Health Care for the Prostate Cancer Patient.
- Three interactive modules on the impacts of radical prostatectomy, radiation therapy, and androgen deprivation therapy.
- Experiential role-play and group exercises to practice skills in a supportive environment.
- The 5As Communication Framework (Ask, Assess, Advise, Assist, Arrange) applied directly to clinical conversations.
- Think Tank Session: becoming a change agent, overcoming barriers, and developing strategies for your own clinic.
- Follow-up quarterly calls to support continued learning and implementation.
